Je l'ai longuement travaillé, travaillant la texture à gauche, laissant la droite lisse comme une eau calme ou un souffle retenu. Je pensais que le tableau était presque terminé. Puis le rouge est apparu — deux fois — soudain et certain, comme une fièvre qui se manifeste. Non pas comme un chaos. Comme un fait. Voilà ce qui brûle en dessous. Voilà ce qui a toujours brûlé. »
