"I lay down on the paper. That was the first gesture — not a brushstroke, but a decision to give the surface my whole body. The ink was already there, waiting. I didn't move much. I let my weight do what weight does.

When I stood up, I stayed very still for a moment before looking. I wasn't sure what I would find. What was left wasn't a portrait. It wasn't an outline. It was something closer to proof — that I had been there, that the body leaves a mark even when it isn't trying to.

The gold came after. Small, quiet. I added it the way you would place a hand on someone's shoulder. Not to say anything. Just to acknowledge what had happened."
