"I've always felt drawn to things that were placed there long before us — stones that stand in fields, patient and indifferent to centuries. When I began this painting I wasn't thinking about megaliths. But the forms arrived with that kind of gravity: immovable, deliberately placed, older than explanation. The gold at their feet isn't decoration. It's what accumulates at the base of things that have stood long enough — offerings, time, the slow residue of being witnessed."
